Carob Raspberry Overnight Oats
These overnight oats are like a chocolate pudding you can have for breakfast! Chia seeds give the oats a pudding-like consistency and carob brings both chocolate taste and sweetness, yum!
If you like to eat porridge or similar foods, overnight oats are a wonderful option during the hotter months (no worry about that here... it's been freezing the whole spring here). It's also easy to make and as the name suggests you can prepare it in the evening (about 30 minutes in advance is enough too). Just mix ingredients in two parts, and later combine them. I've noticed that chia seeds get more of that pudding-like consistency, if they swell on their own in liquid as opposed to mixing the seeds, oats and milk together at once. It makes the process slightly more laborious, but it's worth it.
I've used carob powder here before, but those who do not know it, it tastes like cocoa but is sweeter by itself. Plus it has that delicious taste that tastes almost like something familiar I can't grasp (maybe dates?). Or then it is just the taste of carob. If the sweetness in carob is not enough, you can add your preferred sweetener of course.
Deliciously chocolate pudding-like overnight oats which are super easy to make
Ingredients:
- 75 ml rolled oats
- 1 Tbsp chia seeds
- 75 ml + 60 ml milk (5 Tbsp + 4 Tbsp)
- 1 Tbsp carob powder
- (honey, sugar, maple syrup, other sweetener, optional)
- Optional: a handful of raspberries
Instructions:
- Mix chia seeds with 4 Tbsp (60 ml) milk, leave for 5 minutes and stir again.
- Mix oats with 5 Tbsp (75 ml) milk (and preferred sweetener if wanted).
- Chill both mixtures in fridge overnight (if you are in hurry, I would say 30 minutes is ok too, but then the oats might not have swelled fully).
- Mix carob powder to the chia jelly.
- Layer the mixtures in a bowl or a glass (or just stir together). Add more milk if needed. (Garnish with raspberries.)

Ainekset:
- 0,75 dl kaurahiutaleita
- 1 rkl chiasiemeniä
- n. 0,75 + 0,6 dl maitoa (5 rkl + 4 rkl)
- 1 rkl carobjauhetta
- (hunajaa, sokeria, vaahterasiirappia tms. makeutusta, jos tarpeen)
- Halutessasi: kourallinen vadelmia
Valmistusohjeet:
- Sekoita chiasiemeniin 4 rkl (0,6 dl) maitoa, jätä n. 5 min turpoamaan ja sekoita uudelleen.
- Sekoita kaurahiutaleisiin 5 rkl (0,75 dl) maitoa (ja haluamasi makeutusaine).
- Anna molempien seosten turvota yön yli jääkaapissa (30 minuuttiakin riittää, jos unohdit valmistaa puuron ajoissa).
- Sekoita karob-jauhe chiahyytelöön.
- Kokoa puuro kulhoon tai esim. lasiin kerroksittain (tai sekoita vain yhteen). Ripottele päälle vadelmia, mutta puuro on maukasta myös ihan sellaisenaan.
