Rice Krispie Trees

I've been wanting to try making rice krispie treats for ages. Since Christmas is the best time in year to make candies, I decided to go with these lovely tree(t)s :D I didn't want to make the trees shockingly green, but in the end I was a bit too careful, as they barely look green at all (adding the cereal will fade the colour quite a lot). After the decorations had had time to dry, I wrapped the trees individually to cellophane to give as presents to friends and family.

P.S. I bought a real Christmas tree yesterday and it's waiting on the balcony <3 I love it!

Scroll down for the recipe in English and Finnish.

Rice Krispie Tree(t)s

700 ml rice krispie cereal
1 1/2 Tbsp Butter
150 g marshmallows
Green food colouring
yellow star sprinkles

powdered sugar
lemon juice

Melt butter in a microwave oven or on a non-stick pan on the stove. Add the marshmallows and stir. Continue heating the mixture and stirring once in a while. (I stirred the mixture every 30-45 seconds, but if you are doing it on the stove, I would stir continuously). Once the marshmallows have melted, colour the mixture green (the colour will fade quite a lot after adding the rice crispies). Add the rice crispies and stir (quite vigorously) until the mixture coats the cereal. Let it cool a couple minutes and then take a small ball of the mixture and shape into cones. (I had quite a lot difficulties with the mixture sticking into my palms and fingers and used a piece of baking paper to mold the cones.) Let cool on a baking paper.

Meanwhile, add lemon juice drop by drop to about 100 ml powdered sugar, until you get an even, thick paste. Decorate the trees by gluing stars etc. with the sugar icing.

Riisimurokuuset

7 dl riisimuroja
1 1/2 rkl voita
150 g vaahtokarkkeja
vihreää elintarvikeväriä
keltaisia tähtirakeita
(sokerikoristeita)

tomusokeria
sitruunamehua
